Dr. Mandy will arrive within 1 hour of the confirmed appointment time. Although every effort is made to arrive at the time of the appointment, sometimes things can get slightly behind while helping other families during the day.
Once Dr. Mandy has arrived, and a good area has been set up for your pet, injectable sedation will be given under the skin. This feels similar to a vaccine, and will be the only discomfort your pet experiences. Some pets will feel this more than others. Some may vocalize, and others may act like they didn't notice. Our goal is to make it so this injection is barely felt, so Dr. Mandy will make every effort to make this as painless as possible. If you pet is still easting, sometimes offering treats or high-value items can help distract your pet from the injection. The purpose of this injection is to entirely place your pet under anesthesia so that they no longer feel pain or anxiety, and can fall asleep peaceful After the injection is given, it will take a few minutes for your pet to feel the effects of the medication. As this is happening, most pets will relax and sit/lay in a comfortable spot. Sometimes they will close their eyes. Others will snore lightly. Once this happens, you can rest assured that there is no more pain or discomfort.
Once your pet is entirely under anesthesia, and once you are ready, Dr. Mandy will proceed with the final euthanasia injection. Often this injection is given in a vein, but can also be given in other areas in very ill or dehydrated pets. It is important to remember that your pet will not feel this injection. Immediately following the injection, the breathing will slow, and the heart will stop beating. Dr.. Mandy will confirm that your pet has peacefully passed, and you will be given time alone together.
